About Valerie Ward

Valerie Ward is a freelance writer, editor and blogger who covers the sustainable food scene, including urban farming, food security and food policy. She graduated with distinction from the Sustainable Local Food program at St. Lawrence College, was an accredited researcher on Sustain Ontario’s policy paper Menu 2020: 10 Good Food Ideas for Ontario and has volunteered with the People’s Food Policy Project.

She has also written extensively on food industry trends, home renovation, health and other topics for daily newspapers, trade publications and lifestyle magazines.  She has contributed guest blog posts to Sustain Ontario and to WordCount: Freelancing in the Digital Age. In addition, she has more than 20 years experience providing writing and project management services for private and public sector organizations.

Valerie is a member of Just Food, Canadian Organic Growers, and Food Tank: The Food Think Tank, an organization that offers solutions and environmentally sustainable ways of alleviating hunger, obesity, and poverty.

She lives in near Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband, her daughter, and two cats, Biscuit and Bijou.
